The core mission of The Literacy Lift is to provide explicit, specialized, research-based literacy interventions to children with decoding skill deficits who have learning differences (dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, moderate intellectual disabilities, rare medical conditions, etc.).
I am Taylor Atwater, founder of The Literacy Lift! After six years of teaching special education in the public school setting, I set out to provide literacy intervention services that prioritize time, student growth, and acquisition of literacy skills. I believe that literacy is a human right, and every child has the right to read. I am committed to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility for all humans.
I received my B.A. in English, and my Master of Arts in Teaching in special education and elementary education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Furthermore, during my time in the public school setting, I received training in several Orton - Gillingham based reading programs, as well as professional development in the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), and Reading Research to Classroom Practice (RRtCP).
The Literacy Lift is a welcoming space for all humans.
Multi-sensory teaching strategies, regulating practices, and stims are used and encouraged here.
